Hahndorf Hill Blueblood Blaufrankisch 2010

Well, I was suitably impressed by the last vintage of this wine, so much so I came up with a ridiculous catch cry of “Blauf , Blauf, shove it down your mouth”. Can this match my enthusiasm? Well, yes and no, it’s still delightful drinking with a nose that is aromatically seductive, but I felt it was just missing a bit of staying power.
I love the nose of cherry, Kirsch-like in its intensity, maybe a black forest cake complete with chocolate and vanilla cream as well as hints of rose and a lick of leather. In the mouth it’s full of black fruited intensity, seamless tannins and a very taut acid line, with a hint of spice, perhaps just lacking a little oomph on the finish but really lots to love here and recommends itself to food, I reckon duck would be the go.
